Man faces life in prison for methamphetamine trafficking
A 44-year-old California man faces up to life in prison for allegedly bringing nearly three pounds of crystal methamphetamine to Lihue Airport from Los Angeles.
In March, Kauai police and agents of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration arrested Roman Contreras when he arrived at Lihue Airport and found methamphetamine in his baggage.
On July 6, a federal jury found Contreras guilty of attempted possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine. He has a prior conviction of promoting methamphetamine.
His sentencing is set for Oct. 21.
