Members of Local 1 were setting up to picket along Kapiolani Blvd. and Ward Ave. Monday morning.

Ceramic tile and marble setters members of the Hawaii Masons’ Union set up picket lines Monday at several construction sites.

Picket lines were set up at the Symphony Honolulu condominiums on Ward Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard; Ala Moana Center’s Ewa expansion; the Ritz Carlton on Kuhio Avenue, the Waiea in Kakaako ; and the Hilton Garden Inn, according to Todd Saito, a business representative for Local 1 of Hawaii.

He says contract negotiations with the Tile Contractors Association of Hawaii have been going on for over a year.

“This strike is to protect the rights of Hawaii’s local families , this union local 1 and its members from the unfair practices of the ceramic tile contractors association.”

Saito said about 600 members of Local 1 are on strike.
