Hawaii island police are looking for a purse-snatcher following an incident in Hilo this morning.

Police said they responded to a call to the 200 block of Kamehemeha Avenue at 6:02 a.m., when a woman, 47, who had been sleeping in the doorway of a business said a man kicked her and fled with her purse.

The thief is described as a man in his late 20s or possibly early 30s, who is about 6-feet-tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing dark shorts and a black jacket, and was last seen with the victim’s purse near the intersection of Kamehameha and Haili Street.

Police ask anyone with information to call their non-emergency line at 935-3311. Anonymous tipsters may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300.
