An elderly woman was able to escape a fire at a Bernice Street home in Kalihi this morning.
The Honolulu Fire Department said it responded to the two-alarm fire at 1506 Bernice St., at 9:45 a.m., when they found smoke and flames coming from ground-floor windows.
The fire was contained to one bedroom, where an 81-year-old woman was home but managed to escape with the assistance of an unidentified bystander. She was treated and taken to a hospital by ambulance.
The fire, which was extinguished by 10:05 a.m., remains under investigation.
An earlier version of this story and its headline said the fire was at Bishop Museum.
