1 dead in 2-vehicle crash in Kamuela
A 20-year-old man died Saturday evening in a two-vehicle collision on Mamalahoa Highway in Kamuela, Hawaii County police said.
The victim has been identified as Jourdan Evangelista.
The crash happened at 7:43 p.m. about a half mile south of the 3-mile marker on Route 190.
Evangelista was a passenger in a green 1999 Volkswagen Jetta traveling north on Mamalahoa Highway when the driver lost control of the car due to wet roadway conditions, police said. The Jetta veered into the oncoming southbound lane when it broadsided a gold 2014 Dodge Caravan driven by a 55-year-old Waikoloa woman.
All occupants of both vehicles were taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital. Evangelista was pronounced dead at 9:06 p.m.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
