Man charged with robbery of Enchanted Lake market
Prosecutors charged a 30-year-old man Thursday in connection with a robbery at Keolu Market in Enchanted Lake.
John Vea, with no local address, was arrested near Mayor Wright Housing in Kapalama at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday. He was charged with first-degree robbery and two contempt of court charges. Bail was set at $100,000. Police were still looking for a 25-year-old man in connection with the incident.
Police said two men and a woman entered the store at about 4:25 p.m. Oct. 7 and tried to steal property. Force was used against a 60-year-old man in the robbery, police said.
Surveillance images from the store’s security camera were posted to social media in an attempt to identify the assailants and showed a suspect subduing another man, the store employee, in a chokehold.
The victim told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that one of the suspects also threatened him with a pair of bolt cutters.
Police said the suspects fled empty-handed.
