Pedestrian killed in crash near Sand Island

A man in his 50s was killed early this morning by a motorist, who may have been speeding, while walking on Nimitz Highway near the airport viaduct.

Police said the man was walking on the highway when a motorist heading west hit the man at 1:30 a.m., just before the Kakoi Street intersection.
Paramedics said the man died at the scene.
This was Oahu’s 41st traffic death, compared to 50 at the same time a year ago.
