Waianae beats Baldwin to advance in state football

Javen Towne scored his 19th rushing touchdown of the season and Waianae forced four first-half turnovers in a 21-6 win over Baldwin on Friday evening in the opening round of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships at Aloha Stadium.

Kade Ambrocio scored on a 9-yard TD run and quarterback Jaren Ulu threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Royce Carrick to push the Seariders into the semifinals against No. 1 seed Kahuku next Friday.

Jonovan-Taje Akaka caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Chayce Akaka for Baldwin’s only score. The MIL champion Bears finish the season 8-4.

Waianae will play Kahuku in a rematch of the regular season finale won by the Red Raiders, 30-0.
