SLS Las Vegas makes way for W Hotel, joins Starwood group
LAS VEGAS >> The SLS Las Vegas hotel-casino site is making space for a W Hotel next year.
The money-losing resort on the Las Vegas Strip says its Lux tower will be converted into The W Las Vegas hotel, to open in late 2016.
The current Lux tower has 289 rooms and the entire property is owned by Las Vegas Resort Holdings, LLC.
The two other SLS towers have 1,324 rooms, which won’t see changes in management.
The move means the SLS will be associated with the Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide group, in its Tribute Portfolio of independent hotels.
The news comes after the SLS and Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. announced a franchise agreement was "mutually ended," cutting the Las Vegas property’s previous affiliation with the Hilton hotels’ loyalty program.
