Chaminade routed by No. 5 Kansas at Maui Invitational

Brian McInnis

LAHAINA >> Fifth-ranked Kansas was too much for host Chaminade in the latest edition of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, as the Jayhawks routed the Division II Silverswords 123-72 today.

The 51-point margin of victory was the most in the 32 years of the event.

Seven players scored in double figures for Kansas (2-1), which rebounded from a loss against then-No. 13 Michigan State last week. The Spartans are now up to third.

Chaminade (0-3) tried to bomb away from long range to keep things close, but shot just 8-for-33 (24.2 percent) on 3-pointers and 34.8 percent overall, compared to 64.4 percent for Kansas.

Kansas will play UCLA in Tuesday’s semifinals, while Chaminade faces UNLV. The Bruins edged the Runnin’ Rebels 77-75.

In earlier action at the Lahaina Civic Center, Wake Forest upset No. 13 Indiana 82-78, and No. 19 Vanderbilt pulled away from St. John’s for a 92-55 victory.
