Driver killed in accident in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
A single-vehicle accident on Highway 11 in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park left one person dead Thursday night.
Hawaii County Fire Department said arriving firefighters found the vehicle off the road against some trees, nearly split in half. The victim was apparently ejected and was found outside the vehicle with no signs of life, firefighters said.
The accident happened at about 9:38 p.m. at the 30 mile marker near Piimauna Drive in Volcano.
National Park rangers were investigating the crash.
No information was immediately available on the victim.
