Honolulu police reopened Kamehameha Highway near Kaawa Elementary School after a traffic accident early this morning knocked down a utility pole and power lines.
Police directed Kaneohe-bound traffic to Ohelokai Road and Kahuku-bound traffic to Pohuehue Road until Hawaiian Electric Co. crews secured the wires and pole.
The accident happened at about 1:44 a.m.
Police reopened the highway at about 5:45 a.m.
No serious injuries were reported.
A Hawaiian Electric Co. spokesman said customers in the area briefly lost power when crews de-engergized the lines to secure them.
Done speed just because there is no other traffic around you. Even in the early wee hours of the morning, safety applies.
Road was still closed around 5 am this morning, but has since reopened, according to Hawaii News Now.
