Hawaii police search for ‘extremely dangerous’ suspect

Hawaii County police are looking for a 33-year-old Mountain View man, described as “extremely dangerous,” in connection with abuse, assault and terroristic threatening cases.

Police said Ronald Joseph Kong fled on foot into thick forest area near Mountain View on Tuesday after he was stopped by officers while driving a stolen pickup truck at about 3:30 p.m. near Kukui Camp Road.

Officers arrested a 31-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle. But later released her without charges.

Kong is described as 5-foot-9, weighing about 190 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He is known to frequent the Puna District.

Police said Kong is a suspect in additional cases that came to light following the execution of search warrants on a stolen vehicle and a backpack.

Kong was wanted on suspicion of abuse of a family household member, second-degree assault, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, and first-degree terroristic threatening cases in which he allegedly assaulted and threatened a 31-year-old female companion in a dispute in Puna on Jan. 4.

Police said Kong is considered extremely dangerous and may be armed.

Police urge the public not to approach or contact Kong, but instead, to immediately notify police if they see him or know his whereabouts.

    Could the 31-year-old woman who was in the stolen truck be the same 31-year-old female Kong allegedly assaulted and threatened on Jan. 4? Just wondering.
