High surf advisory closes Kauai’s north shore beaches

All north shore beaches on Kauai from Hanalei to Kee are closed today due to dangerous ocean conditions, the Kauai Fire Department said.

A high surf advisory is in effect for the north and west facing shores until 6 p.m. Monday.

The advisory covers the norht and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and the north facing shores of Maui.

Surf along the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Molokai and the north shores of Oahu and Maui are expected to be as high as 18 to 25 feet high.

The west facing shores of Oahu may see waves from 15 to 20 feet.

Kauai fire officials say those looking to go swimming should head to the south and east shores of the island such as Kealia, Lydgate, Poipu, and Salt Pond.
