Man who burned woman in Kahaluu charged with attempted murder

A 27-year-old man was charged today with attempted murder after he poured a flammable liquid on a 24-year-old woman and the liquid caught on fire in Kahaluu, police said.

Bobby Young Townsend, of Kaneohe, was charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree arson at 1:10 a.m. His bail was set at $1 million.

Police said Townsend was arguing with the woman in a parked van about 2 p.m. Monday when he threw the liquid on the her, which ignited and burned the woman and the van.

Paramedics took the woman to the hospital in serious condition with second-degree burns to her arms, legs and back.

Townsend was arrested in Kailua Thursday evening.
