The Cure coming to Honolulu in July

The Cure, the British band that transcended several pop styles during the post-punk rock era, comes to Honolulu in July.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. for the July 16 concert at Blaisdell Arena.

“The Cure Tour 2016” features original band member Robert Smith (voice/guitar), joined by bassist Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper, keyboard player Roger O’Donnell and guitarist Reeves Gabrels. The playlist draws from their 37 years of making music and will includes hits, fan favorites, rarely heard tunes and some unreleased tracks.

Named “Best British Band” in 1991, the Cure has explored several genres of popular music. With albums like “Seventeen Seconds” (1980) and “Faith,” (1982), the band is considered one of the originators of Goth rock, but it also released a psychedelic album “The Top” (1984) before producing danceable tunes with “Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me,” which went platinum and reached the top 40 in the U.S. Billboard charts. The group last visited Hawaii in 2013.

The July show is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. An opening act has yet to be announced. Front-row tickets will be available for $250, with prices for other seats ranging from $25-$150 via ticketmaster.com or by calling 866-448-7849. All ages.
