High surf, flooding close 2 Leeward beaches
Keawaula, also known as Yokohama Bay, on the Leeward Oahu coast will remain closed through the weekend due to the high surf, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources said today.
At Makua Beach, the road that crosses over the dry river bed is currently under two to three feet of water and is impassable to vehicles.
The drainage dips on the Keawaula roadway has sand that was pushed in from the high surf and is about a foot deep in places.
The beaches will be reassessed on Monday.
The National Weather Service said a high surf warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. on north- and west-facing shores of Oahu.
Along the north-facing shores, surf is expected to be as high as 40 feet and and as high 25 feet on west-facing shores.

Awesome pictures, SA! Gee you’d think being in Kapolei that Star Advertiser could easily ask one of their reporters / photographers to remove themselves from their chairs and go to the actual area for more detailed reporting, which we all deserve.
Road closed? Some folks on islands south of us are about to get their islands “closed”. Global warming. Is the closing of two local beaches unique? First time evah? More to come?
