Koloa woman killed in car crash identified

A 23-year-old woman who died in a two-car crash in Kekaha has been identified as Kekailani Pau of Koloa, police said.

The crash occurred at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday near the entrance of the Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor. Police said Pau was a passenger in a Honda Civic, driven by a 25-year-old Kekaha man, traveling eastbound with Pau on Kaumualii Highway when a westbound green sedan turned left in front of the Honda, onto the roadway leading to the harbor.

The Honda driver then lost control of the vehicle, crossing the center line and crashing into an oncoming Ford Ranger. Its driver, a 55-year-old Kekaha woman, sustained minor injuries. she was treated and was released at the scene.

The Kekaha man was taken to Wilcox Hospital where he remains in critical condition, according to police spokeswoman Sarah Blane.

Speed on the part of the Honda is believed to be a factor, according to the Kauai County Police Department.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call police officer Marnie Fernandez at 241-1613.
