HECO worker revived after near-fatal electric shock stops heart
A 33-year-old Hawaiian Electric Co. worker was taken to the hospital late last night in serious condition after an electric shock stopped his heart.
The incident happened at the intersection of Kamehameha Highway and McGrew Loop in Aiea around 11:11 p.m. The man’s coworkers used an automated defibrillator three times and performed CPR to keep the man alive until paramedics arrived, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
Paramedics were able to revive the man with another shock from a defibrillator and he was reportedly awake on the way to the hospital.
Darren Pai, a spokesman for the Hawaiian Electric Co, said the incident is under investigation.
Pai said medical privacy laws prevent him from releasing the man’s condition.
“We can say he’s conscious, able to walk and communicate, and there is no evidence of electrical burns,” Pai said.

When?
Where?
Why?
Yes, Why did it happen? Were all safety steps and procedures for the lineman taken before getting shocked?
Amazing, electrocuted worker is revived after another electric shock.
Praise the Lord. It was not his time to go yet. Definitely one of the most dangerous occupations regardless of the pay and benefits. Wish him a speedy and successful recovery.

Wow! Gotta hug his co-workers, EMS crew and his family. Count his blessings.
Absolutely!
Good thing his employer HECO has their employees trained for CPR annually.
And had an AED on site.
Electricity has a proven known path. If you become a segment of that path electricity wins every time. OSHA will investigate this to define what went wrong. Very happy to see the 33 will now see 34.
Hopefully a full recovery and back with family and friends.
All the safety training, having an AED on hand saved his life.
Well done HECO workers.
Those defibrillators are awesome! Glad this man will be ok.
Reminds of the HECO crew that stopped in the Koolau Center, that was on its way to Punaluu for a job, to pickup some lunch, a few days ago. That guy looked like he was in his mid-40s. Nice guy, nice smile. He drove one of those big yellow and blue HECO Vans.
As a former first responder, they did everything right. Good save!
Lucky guy, his co-workers saved his life.
Once again AEDs prove their worth. This is definitely money well spent.
please don’t be intimidated by aed’s. if someone’s life is at risk and an aed might help use it if it’s available. they are so simple to use and most aed’s walk you through the easy steps. it knows when a shock is needed and when it isn’t so you don’t have to worry. if you know cpr, even better but remember you don’t have to be trained to use an aed. it’s virtually idiot-proof.
