Lockdown ends without incident at Campbell High School

Police cars gathered in front of the Campbell High School office building today after authorities investigated an alleged threat.

Students were locked in their classrooms for about an hour Friday morning at Campbell High School while authorities investigated an alleged threat.

The students were kept in their classrooms from 10:15 to 11:35 a.m., just before lunch, the Department of Education reported.

The department said it was investigating the alleged threat, which also resulted in an increased police presence at the school.

Several students posted photos to social media accounts of a threat apparently written on a wall, dated March 4, 2016, that included a crude drawing of a gun firing at stick figures. The graffiti writer said he or she had a “m9 beretta” and warned to “Watch out, 11:05 a.m.”

Police officials had no immediate comment on the incident.

There was no change to the class schedule today, where classes end at 2:15 p.m.

It was the second alleged threat made to an Oahu high school this week.

The Department of Education increased security personnel and police at Castle High School and nearby areas Friday morning after school officials were made aware of an alleged threat Thursday.

However, no school activities were canceled Friday at the Windward Oahu school.

In a letter posted to parents on Castle website Thursday, Principal Bernadette Tyrell said “the safety and well being of all students, staff and families is of paramount importance to us.”

Tyrell said school officials learned of the threat before school ended Thursday.

“In response to the alleged threat, our school will be initiating additional safety measures on campus tomorrow, Friday, March 4. This will include additional security staff and the presence of Honolulu Police Department (HPD) officers. There will be no change to the school schedule.”

What was the alleged threat? And who was it made against? Such poor reporting.

    • allie says:

agree. Poorly reported. Maybe it was a bomb threat? Let me hold on to Boots…it is scary out there!

      • cholo says:

watch out for your shadow! it’s out to git ya!

Word is in the next round of contract negotiations BOE/DOE/HSTA will demand “Combat Pay” for any dues paying union member having to endure hours of being locked up with their students, deprived of their personal freedom. Expect them to demand four times their hourly pay for each hour in lockdown and one extra day of paid leave for each hour of Lockdown.

Think this is shibai? Think back to some of the other obtuse demands these clueless bureaucrats have made over the years. As in demanding the GET be raised so more goes to the educational bureaucracy. Their incompetence knows no limits.

    • lee1957 says:

And why is it alleged? Functional illiteracy runs deep at DOE.

    • DeltaDag says:

Part of the reason for the lack of details is a decision to minimize any fame and glory by those responsible, much like how local TV news will blur or pixelate graffiti when reporting cases of it.

    • plaba says:

You don’t make these known to the public because it could lead to undue panic or publicity that the person making the threat wanted. Why would the police tip their hand if they knew more about it with the risk of not catching the culprit? Obviously it’s on-going. This is not poor reporting.

      • localguy says:

plaba – Actually it causes just the opposite effect. No information just starts more rumors, more concern from distraught parents. Makes the school bureaucrats and first responders look utterly incompetent, like Keystone Kops. Running in circles with their heads cut off.

People react better when they are told the truth, not made up shibai from some fancy “Spin Master” trying to make everyone look good.

Then again we are talking about the Nei’s utterly backwards educational bureaucracy. Nothing new there.

  2. pilot16 says:

What’s the point of this..”story”???? I keep reading the headline, see it on social media, etc. No information. What threat? From who? About what? Against who? A bomb? Physical beating? What the heck?? Why print something like this? Business as usual at the school, so what was the information that was supposed to be gleaned from this?

No facts were used in the preparation of this news piece.

  4. Jonathan_Patrick says:

Breaking News: A threat from Osama bin Laden was purported to be intercepted by Obama No Care, and transmitted to the Hawaiian Islands. Unfortunately the most powerful reciever was in the Kailua area, hence the threat to Castle High School. No worries ai no kea ess why mo bettah go take one chance en ask one girl for one prom date, while having lunch outside, while its more casual.

How many people stop to think the concept of blindly going to “Lockdown” is always the right answer? As we have seen on TV shows/movies, sometimes the perp has a plan to cause more damage when all the people are purposely put into small locations. Easy pickings behind locked doors, no escape.

Many schools came to realize their “Lockdown” plans had more holes than Swiss Cheese. As in after going into hours long Lockdown, no school bureaucrat thought about the needs of the students bodies, as in no restrooms or water. Now schools have to equip their Lockdown areas with privacy screens, camp toilets, retaining bags, water bottles.

And the hits just keep on coming.

    • Cellodad says:

Yep. Sounds like the commentary of someone who gets his information from “TV shows/Movies” rather than someone with first-hand knowledge of safety and security considerations. Developed a lot of institutional crisis plans? And yes, the considerations you mention in the second paragraph are issues that are discussed and addressed as well as emergency notification, first-responder strategies, student accountability and release procedures and a host of others.

Looks like Cranky Old Man Day just keeps coming earlier and more often.

      • localguy says:

Why label yourself as a Cranky Old Man Day? Don’t be so hard on yourself just because you are close minded.

As we have seen, TV shows spawn copycats all over the place, some even worse than the show character. Fact is a well planned assault on students would be over before any LEO could even show up on site. They know it, their worse nightmare.

Lets hope it never happens. Then again, almost every day in the news there is a shooting with innocent victims.

Neil is threatening to nuke Hawaii via schools.

Was the lockdown real or alleged?
