State Sen. Slom says hospital tests unremarkable

CRAIG T. KOJIMA / JAN. 18, 2012

Sam Slom speaks on the Senate floor during the opening of the 2012 legislature.

Hawaii’s lone Republican Senator Sam Slom says tests he had at a hospital after he was taken there on Friday were unremarkable.

Slom’s chief of staff Kathryn Higa says he was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center by ambulance right after the Senate floor session.

In a statement issued Friday night, Slom says his doctors told him the tests were unremarkable. Slom adds that he will be staying overnight to “sample hospital cuisine and avoid doing dishes.”

The statement adds: “Sen. Slom thanks everyone for their concern and well-wishes and is planning to be back to work at the State Capitol next week. “

Higa says Slom headed to the hospital shortly after voting no on a bill about transporting sand onto beaches.

Glad that he appears to be all right. Would hate to lose the only republican in the senate.

A similar occurrence took place Jan. 21, 2015 at the opening of Hawaii State Senate legislative session to Senator Sam Slom. Fell ill during his opening day remarks, several recesses took place so he could be examined by physicians in a room off the senate chamber.
Not to worry folks, he is covered by Workers’ Compensation b/c he was on the time clock and the entire legislative body as witnesses to attest in his behalf.

swallow your pride and rest awhile.

Maybe he should take a rest permanently, he has a record to be a vicarious liability.  One such event was Slom’s endorsement of his cozy crony Mufi Hannemann in 2004 running as a mayoral candidate against the late City Councilman Duke Bainum. Through Slom’s covert relationship with his then live-in girlfriend Malia Zimmerman who was the co-founder of the independent, online news “Hawaii Reporter” that launched Feb. 2002. She wrote a pseudo-journal “expose” of a blatant smear campaign tactic against Duke Bainum’s wife Jennifer in 2004 about nine days before election day. That pseudo-journalism “expose” was sent via email to thousands of government civil service employees government emails accounts through entrusted various civil service employees using their government email address by mass emailing. The voters were swayed not learning any lessons from another smear tactic campaign done to Cecil (Cec) Heftel for governor against John Waihee in1986 and the rest is history. So, here we are stuck with probably an antiquated rail transit system with a skyrocketing price tag that everyone’s great, great, great, great, great grandchildren will be paying the cost. Just like the non-functioning stadium that we are stuck with from the get-go. There were so many other things and the legacy lives on b/c the present Mayor Kirk William Caldwell was endorsed by Mufi Hannemann and was appointed as the C&C managing director for Mufi.
I believe, Zimmerman finally realized she was exploited by a snake oil salesman due to her July 2, 2015 lawsuit filing for breach of contract on her ex-boyfriend of ten years Senator Sam Slom.

Correction as to the exclusive relationship as a couple between Senator Sam Slom and Malia Zimmerman, it was for at least twelve years up to last year.

    • allie says:

all true. Sam needs to retire. He has not at all been a credible senator. He is a gadfly but has represented Hawaii Kai poorly. His misdeeds related to his non-profit are public information. Your post reminds us of the damage Mufi did to the future of this city with the outdated rail and all the corruption that has gone with it.

Allie, “you’re preaching to the choir”, I live in Hawaii Kai!

I think this hanger-on senator should retire and give younger republicans a chance to compete. He never has a better plan. He full of obvious complaints about waste, fraud and corruption but rarely has anything positive to offer as an alternative. Very disappointing man and a bit of a has-been.
