Rep. Duckworth slams ‘tasteless’ GOP tweet
WASHINGTON >> Illinois Senate candidate Rep. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., criticized the National Republican Senatorial Committee for releasing a tweet that appeared to be a swipe at her status as a disabled veteran.
Earlier in the day, the NRSC released a now-deleted tweet saying, “Tammy Duckworth has a sad record of not standing up for our veterans.” Duckworth lost both of her legs during the Iraq War while piloting a helicopter.
In response, Duckworth’s deputy campaign manager and spokesman, Matt McGrath, criticized the tweet.
“Tasteless and dishonest, just like everything else to do with Mark Kirk’s flailing campaign,” he said in a statement. “Tammy has made fighting for veterans her life’s work, and will continue to do so in the Senate.”
The NRSC released a statement to Talking Points Memo about the tweet.
“It would be great if reporters would pay as much attention to a deleted tweet as they should to Tammy Duckworth being sued by VA whistle-blowers for ignoring claims of mistreatment and corruption,” it said.

There is a difference between attending schools and graduating from schools. I suppose the story meant graduated from, instead of just “attending”, McKinley and UHM.
Talk about a poor choice of words.
Even for a Republican, with their terribly low standards of conduct during elections, this is bad. They certainly are scraping the bottom of the barrel this year.
Even Donald can’t trump this tasteless pun, in terms of being offensive.
I think she is being overly sensitive, I don’t believe it was malicious, but a poor choice of words.
Sure, and if you were the target, you would think the same. Yeah, sure. Remark was tasteless, tacky and typically d*mb GOP slander. Non compos mentis.
Unfortunate choice of words? Most definitely! But, you know darned good and well that democrats love playing the victim (see how well it has worked for it’s historic supporters?). This is sooo predictable. Of COURSE she’s going to exploit this faux pas and make as much political hay out of it as possible. It’s in their DNA. I would be shocked if she and her corrupt party didn’t. You always expect that out of them. This is just another typical distraction to avoid debating the real issues.
No class at all.
Same as our President not going to Nancy Reagan’s funeral–previous engagement!!!! (Same as for Margaret Thatcher. ) Neither Party has any class.
Leave it to you to bring in the President on this. Does your Obama Derangement Syndrome know no bounds?
No, not the same at all. I can’t even imagine how the two cases could be equated.
He was also “too busy” to attend the funeral of Antonin Scalia.
Tacky
Tacky
Tacky
Correct, but he made it to Mandel’s and the Church funeral–get the connection???
Mark Kirk is crippled from the neck up.
Speaking of Duckworth & tasteless…”Fifteen Democratic lawmakers walked out of the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing Thursday, just before testimony from family members of two men murdered during the terrorist raid a year ago in Benghazi, Libya.”

Guess who was one of the 15.
Touche
Remember this is the silly season when politicians and their backers look for every reason to criticize their opponent. IMO, regardless of whether this was a deliberate or inadvertent poor choice of words, if any candidate is truly offended, they’re in the wrong business. Also, to use one’s disability as a campaign asset is no less offensive.
