A cold front approaching the islands from the northwest will bring southerly winds and the chance of heavy showers this week.

The strong tradewinds of the last few days will weaken and shift to the south, bringing humid Kona weather, the possibility of vog and the chance of heavy showers starting Monday, the National Weather Service said.

A cold front approaching the islands from the northwest is forecast to move over Hawaii, starting Monday afternoon on Kauai.

Winds will become light and southerly, bringing increased moisture from the tropics and an increased chance of rain through Friday.

Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and strong northeast and easterly winds of 15 to 25 mph with a few windward and mauka showers.

The winds will continue to be breezy through tonight.

Monday morning will be mostly sunny in the morning with increasing clouds and humidity in the afternoon and scattered showers, light Kona winds and possible haze.

The weather service said the rest of the work week will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and the chance of locally heavy rain with areas of haze. Highs will be between 81 and 86 degrees and lows will be between 68 and 73 degrees.
