State funds for UH-Hilo pharmacy school to lapse in July
HILO >> The University of Hawaii is approaching a July deadline to commit millions in state-approved funds for its long-awaited pharmacy school in Hilo.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports legislators in 2014 authorized $28 million in bonds with $5 million to be raised by the university for the project. The appropriation will lapse at the end of the fiscal year.
Bids to build the pharmacy school came in over budget earlier this year.
University spokesman Dan Meisenzahl says the university is still exploring its options, like putting the project out for bid again.
The construction site has been mostly untouched since officials held a groundbreaking ceremony in December 2014.
Nearby portable buildings host classes.
Meisenzahl said the groundbreaking was intended to be more ceremonial than an official mark of construction starting.

Hawaii can’t afford it!
Hawaii doesn’t need another school of Pharmacology. Hawaii need to explore further methods of “Alternative Healing” and “Homeopathic” remedies. Interesting that “BIGPHARMA” has missed this opportunity to exploit Hawaii’s elderly population.
Well that makes sense. Why give our kids a pathway to getting a great career right here in Hawai’i? It’s better that they work at Wal-Mart instead of getting a Pharm.D. degree to walk into a 6-figure job. Why care about them? And of course, “big pharma” does not compound or dispense patient doses. But why let facts get in the way of your argument?
There is a lot of disease that has nothing whatever to do with living healthy. Like cystic fibrosis for instance, and other genetic diseases. They require medicine. Lots of it. And trained people who can safely compound and dispense it. Homeopathic is a major scam to steal money from people who can’t read or think.
