Kekai Rios’ first career home run broke a 10th-inning tie and Hawaii evened the series against Cal State Northridge in dramatic fashion on Saturday with a 6-5 victory at Matador Field in Northridge, Calif.

Rios, who had three hits and finished a triple shy of the cycle, belted his first collegiate home run off CSUN closer Connor O’Neil (4-3) to give UH a 6-5 lead.

Matt Valencia (3-0) struck out three over the final two innings to pick up a much-needed victory for Hawaii (18-18, 7-4 Big West), which ended a three-game losing streak.

Johnny Weeks went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Jacob Sheldon-Collins was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Rainbow Warriors.

Fred Smith and Branden Berry homered for CSUN (23-14, 2-9).

Matt LoCoco drew four walks, scored twice and hit an RBI double for UH.

The series finale is Sunday at 10 a.m. Hawaii time.
