Lost hiker finds way down Kahaluu trail
A New York visitor was forced to spend the night in Waihee Valley in Kahaluu after he got separated from his hiking companion at dusk Monday.
Fire officials said the visitor was hiking with another man when they got separated around 5:45 p.m. The other hiker made his way down the trail and gathered a small group to go and look for his friend.
They contacted HFD for help around 10 p.m.
Fire crews launched ground and air searches, but could not locate the hiker.
The search was suspended at midnight.
Fire rescue personnel were to resume their search at 6 a.m., but the hiker walked out on his own.

Kudos for walking out by himself. Though there is no excuse for getting separated from your group. Strange that it happened??
It happens. You go off the trail to take some photos, or to pee and your companions don’t wait or don’t notice you are not there.
Good weather for getting lost.
