‘Locally heavy’ showers possible this afternoon
Afternoon showers could become “locally heavy” today and Friday, National Weather Service forecasters predicted.
A cold front approaching the islands from the northwest is cutting off the cooling tradewinds, bringing warm, muggy weather conditions.
Forecasters expect clouds to build up over interior sections and some afternoon showers.
Winds are turning to the southeast, which could also bring vog overnight.
Forecast models suggest the afternoon rains may be concentrated on the northern sides of the islands today and southern areas on Friday.
Breezy tradewinds are expected to return this weekend.
The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for partly sunny skies and scattered showers this afternoon with a 50 percent chance of rain. Light southerly winds could bring hazy conditions overnight, with lows in the 60s.
Friday should be mostly sunny in the morning with frequent showers in the afternoon and a 90 percent chance of rain that could be locally heavy. More haze is expected overnight Friday.
