A salvage contractor secured the vessel with lines, then lifted it by helicopter to a truck in the parking lot.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources removed a grounded vessel from Makena State Park on Maui this morning.

The vessel grounded in late April on an inaccessible rocky point of the park shoreline between Big Beach and Little Beach, DLNR said in a press release.

A salvage contractor secured the vessel with lines, then lifted it by helicopter to a truck in the parking lot. The vessel was then towed to a salvage yard where it will be further disposed.

The park was closed during the operation to ensure public safety. Makena State Park has since been reopened.
