A Honolulu Circuit Court judge set a trial date for 32 former students who allege they were repeatedly molested by a now-deceased Kamehameha Schools psychiatrist.

A news release from the plaintiffs’ attorney said the trials are set to begin June 1, 2018. The plaintiffs are suing Kamehameha Schools and the estate of psychiatrist Robert Browne, who they say repeatedly sexually abused them during therapy sessions between the 1960s and 1980s. The lawsuit says Kamehameha Schools made each student attend therapy with Browne, where he molested them.

Kamehameha Schools didn’t immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Kamehameha Schools was established in 1883 by the will of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop. Kamehameha Schools gives admission preference to students of Native Hawaiian ancestry and enrolls nearly 7,000 at three campuses statewide.

So sad it came to this.

  2. Mr Mililani says:

How do they defend something that was alleged to have happened forty or fifty years ago and the perp is dead? I guess the school has deep pockets hence the lawsuit.

  3. yobo says:

It’s Retribution for crimes committed in the past regardless if psychiatrist Robert Browne committed suicide.

Kam Schools will be held responsible for not thoroughly checking the background of this individual.

It’s 32 students against a defendant that’s no longer living. It’ll be interesting to see the outcome.

KS needs to settle and put it behind us…$10M/each.

Dr. Robert Browne was the devil disguising himself as the servant of righteousness. His love for evil became second nature to him. Sounds like some of the State mental health workers we have with college degrees. Having a college degree doesn’t make you a good person.

Oh, This guy touched me inappropriately too! How do I get in on the action? What’s the split? I’ll testify for my share and dude can’t defend himself because he’s dead. No worries, Bishop Estate can easily afford a settlement. When do we get the checks?

In the sixties Kamehameha treated it’s students as inferior and less than normal. The bar was set low. The important thing to learn was that others would dictate your life and you should learn to shine your shoes and show up to work on time. You were not capable to be the boss. We, the trustees, will prepare you for your life of servitude. Enjoy your ukulele and the golden sunsets.
