The cause of a fire Tuesday night in the basement of boarded-up church in Palolo Valley still hasn’t been determined by fire investigators.

Nine fire companies with 35 firefighters arrived at 11:13 p.m. at the St. Patrick Church Food and Outreach located at 2117 Palolo Ave. to find a moderate amount of black smoke coming from the basement of the structure.

The building was boarded up and firefighters had to force their way into the basement kitchen. The fire was brought under control at 11:48 p.m.

It is unclear if anyone was within the building at the time of the fire.

No injuries were reported.
