Woman says rock thrown at moving car in Hilo

Police are looking for witnesses to a dispute between people in two cars that escalated while both vehicles were traveling on Hilo roads.

The incident began Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a store on Makaala Street, when a Puna woman reported she and her passengers were threatened by a male driver and three female passengers traveling in a grey Mazda sedan.

The woman, driving a 2005 black Chrysler 300 said the incident continued on Pohaku Street and Railroad Avenue, when a woman in the Mazda threw a large rock at the Chrysler at about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Mazda left the scene.

Police opened a terroristic threatening and criminal property damage investigation.

They are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call police at (808) 935-3311 or contact officer Marcos Santos at (808) 961-3311 or Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300.

  • You mean nobody took a pic or video on their cellphone? Seems like EVERYBODY has a cell nowadays. Capture everything that goes on. They didn’t get license plate number, either?

  • The Hilo / Puna (East Side) of the Big Island has really undergone some unpleasant change over the past several years. There was a time when our Family thought that Hilo could have become a University Town / Retirement Community. Increased influx of transplants have really changed the once quaint atmosphere. In my opinion, the negative influence has grown from the South Hilo area and slowly across Hilo town and making its’ way towards North Hilo. Just my observation…
