Small brush fires in Nanakuli likely intentionally set, fire officials say

Honolulu fire officials said it is likely a series of small brush fires along Farrington Highway in Nanakuli today were intentionally set.

Firefighters extinguished three fires, the largest burning an area of about 100 feet, between Waiomea Street and Laaloa Street.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened but the fires did prompt police to briefly close the right westbound lane of the highway while firefighters doused the fires.

Earlier tonight, Honolulu police closed a westbound lane on Farrington Highway at Laaloa Street because of the brush fire.

The lane was closed at 4:46 p.m. and reopened at 5:17 p.m.
