The UFC Gym in Kakaako opened in August 2012. UFC Gym said today it is adding a third BJ Penn gym on Oahu at the Town Center of Mililani this fall.

Santa Ana, Calif.-based UFC Gym said today it is adding a third BJ Penn gym on Oahu at the Town Center of Mililani this fall.

Penn, a Hilo native and two-division UFC champion, opened his first UFC Gym in Kakaako in 2012. That was followed by a second gym in Waikele.

The new 30,000-square-foot gym will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“I am so excited to continue the growth in Hawaii,” said Penn in a news release. “I’ve always dreamed of putting my name on a gym in my homeland of Hawaii and I’m so grateful that I have the opportunity to open our third gym.”

I have nothing against gyms but don’t open them in a shopping center with restaurants and retail establishments. When 24 hour Fitness opened in Mililani Shopping Center, the gym patrons park in spaces for restaurants and retailers. There are assigned stall for the gym but I seem them parking in front of Ross and Starbucks. This is especially busy on the weekdays around dinner. The after work gym patrons and those wanting dinner all fight for limited parking. There are parking stalls across the street near American Savings but why should I have to walk across the street when people are wrongfully parking in stalls not for them.

I’m not sure, but I think it might be in the space that was Price Busters, right in the middle of the mall. Yeah, close to a lot of eating places. There’s a lot of construction going on and there’s barricades all over the place, so, we haven’t been to the middle section of the Town Center. Don’t know why he wants to have a gym there. His other gym is in Waikele, only 10 minutes away.

BJ isn’t capable of opening a business. Only in Hawaii, UFC gyms use BJ’s name to entice the local blahlahs who are easily swayed by the gimmick. BJ gets a small token payment, from what was written about these gyms before, and he has no ownership interest. But then again, put the loser’s name on it and it’ll attract like-minded knuckle heads.
