The Honolulu Ethics Commission this afternoon named Laurie Wong-Nowinski as acting executive director.
Longtime director Chuck Totto resigned three weeks ago, leaving the office with no director, associate legal counsel or investigator and only two clerical staffers.
Wong-Nowinski had been Totto’s associate legal counsel, his second-in-command, but resigned amid controversy effective April 1.
The appointment was announced in a release issued late this afternoon by the commission. It is effective Aug. 1.
At its meeting last week, the commission voted to give its chairwoman, Victoria Marks, the authority to offer a contract to someone, but Marks and other members declined to say to whom or for what position.
Expect her to go after Caldwell enemies exclusively

Smart move on the commission’s part, any other appointee would be labeled a Caldwell stooge from the start. Wong-Nowinski must have agreed to back off of Caldwell and the rail controversy to get her job back.What a shame, Hawaii has the most corrupt politicians in the country by far. That’s what you get with a one party system.
Why don’t you start another party to challenge the Democrats if the Religious extremist right wing Republican Party don’t suit your fancy.
Easier said than done in an entrenched one party system like we have here. Even other dems who don’t tow the far left line are subject to censure.
