Kayaker dies in incident off Na Pali Coast

LIHUE » Kauai authorities say a woman has died after the kayak she and her friend were in was struck by large waves and capsized on the Na Pali Coast.

The woman had been thrown against rocks and hit her head before disappearing into the water Sunday morning. Police say the woman’s friend had been able to make it onto nearby rocks and received assistance from a family in a boat.

The unresponsive woman was located and both women were taken to a hospital in the boat.

Paramedics had attempted life-saving efforts on the woman but were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead.
