Other civic experience or community service?

My civic rent is vast. I belong to an international organization that provides medical care, (disabilities, burn care, orthopedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate) for children at no expense to them. Guide at Shriners Hospital Tampa, Fla. Help raise money for a cancer research institute, served on the board of the U.S. Postal Council, numerous cancer fund walks and docent at Iolani Palace.

Anything else you’d like voters to know about you?

I believe all of us must work together as one. I will always focus on what is best for everyone in Hawaii. I believe that it is time for a change. That change is now.

What makes you qualified to be a trustee of OHA?

My life experiences having served as a board member of large organizations that were state or worldwide. I know what is it like to lose land taken by federal, state, city government. I believe give more than I take, all of us must leave a better place than we found.

What are your top five priorities for OHA?

1. Hawaiians as own nation. 2. Increase cultural awareness and identity within and outside the culture. 3. Self-sustaining as an organization. 4. Increase the physical and financial health of Hawaiians. 5. Encourage solidarity and unity for the good of all.

What is your one big idea?

Complete the objective of the Hawaiian people being recognized, identified and known and their own independent nation with all the rights and benefits that they deserve. I can help bring two opposing groups find a common ground.

Why are you running for trustee?

Fresh ideas are always important for any organization. I can bring a much needed new vista to an organization that has had almost the same representatives for decades. With that I bring experience working with large successful organizations. One organization was worldwide with 140,000 members.

Gov. David Ige has said residential development should not be allowed on the Kakaako Makai lands that were turned over to OHA by the state. How do you believe those lands should be used or developed?

No residential. No Taj Mahal. Mix use of income producing as well as cultural exhibit and cultural sharing. Project must be self-sustaining as well as inform, educate and show pride for the Hawaiian culture as well as people. Must be accessible yet blend with the spirit of Aloha.
