MARY BERGMANN / SPECIAL TO THE STAR-ADVERTISER
SOMEWHERE OVER THE ATLANTIC
Mary Bergmann was touring through the picturesque countryside outside the village of Moorenbrunn, Germany, last month when the sweet sound of the islands came wafting over the radio airwaves. It was Israel “Bruddah Iz” Kamakawiwo‘ole singing “Over the Rainbow.” Bergmann, her husband and another couple were en route to another village for dinner at a 15th-century brewery. “It was a beautiful day. We were sitting back enjoying the ride, when suddenly we got a slice of aloha from Brother Iz in between the German pop songs,” she said. The Kailua resident took this picture of the car’s console from the back seat to record the moment.
