Trump says presidential debates shouldn’t compete with NFL

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally, at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, in Denver, Friday, July 29, 2016.

WASHINGTON >> Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says he doesn’t like going up against NFL games when he debates Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton this fall. The billionaire businessman also says that the football league has complained to him about the debate schedule in a letter.

An NFL spokesman says the football league didn’t send a letter to Trump as he claims.

Two of the three debates scheduled in September and October will be televised during NFL games.

The independent, nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates serves as the debate sponsor and sets the dates. The schedule for the 2016 debates was announced, nearly a year ago, in September 2015.

In a statement issued Saturday night, the commission says it “did not consult with any political parties or campaigns in making these decisions.”

    Trump is right!

Not gonna vote for either of them but he is right this time!

      I thought Debbie was out.

    • MillionMonkeys says:

      Nope, Trump is wrong!

First, he’s wrong to say that the NFL wrote a letter agreeing with him about the debate schedule.

Second, he has incorrectly figured that scheduling the debates differently from NFL games will somehow get him more votes. The “under-educated” whites who like him don’t pay much attention to debates anyway, so it doesn’t matter to them if they watch football instead of CNN. The more educated (for whom the Mercedes and investment broker commercials are aimed) know how to get enough information to confirm that Trump is an 1idiot.

Trump has nothing intelligent to say.

@Justmyview: Doesn’t it bother you that he says the NFL sent him a letter about it and the NFL says they didn’t?

the female felon and her coconspirators will need to monitor her nap times and meds to avoid exposing her “confusion” during the debates. it was another fainting/dizzy spell that contributed to her being late back to the podium during the democrat primary debates. live national telecasts of the debates may reveal more about the female felon’s health than has already been observed.

the female felon’s aversion for open press conferences stem from the need to mask her health problems behind the facade of being afraid of reporter questions of her email scandal, her serial sex offender husband, and her pay to play foundation/state department rigging of donations, speech fees and inner circle staffers working both at the foundation and state department at the same time.

    • hawaiikone says:

Implying Clinton has health issues disqualifying her from consideration isn’t any more valid than the left harping on Trump’s alleged Russian connections. Although DVT is in itself serious, and poses some challenges to those with this condition, it’s not unusual as people age for a variety of concerns to emerge. As I said with the Donald, there’s more than enough legitimate ammunition to shoot him down with, and the same holds true for Hillary. Gary Johnson, on the other hand, is quite fit, and an a competitive cycler. Just sayin’…

    • skinut says:

Someone is only a felon if they’ve been CONVICTED of a felony. Clearly, that is not the case here, despite the far rights’ fervent wishes.

      • st1d says:

a felon is a felon when they commit a felony. although the female felon has eluded felony conviction for now, she is still a felon.

        • PoiDoggy says:

@st1d; a felon cannot purchase a gun. But, if you *commit* a felony, but are not *convicted* of a felony, you are not denied that right. Hence, you’re not a felon.

        • st1d says:

while the hrs 134-7 lists the classes of felons, convicted felons and others prohibited from owning, possessing and controlling firearms, it is not the authority that defines who is a felon.

a felon is one who commits a felony, whether convicted or not for that felony.

the female felon achieves her felon status with her numerous felony violations of law. that the female felon has so far evaded convictions for those felonies is a matter of privilege of the wealthy and powerful.

    Trump caught in another lie!

  5. NanakuliBoss says:

Too funny. Can’t wait for the de-bait.

  6. keaukaha says:

He is full of you know what. He is getting stage fright because he knows that he is going to get his a– kicked by a woman on live tv. He can’t bul–hit his way out of this one. How can he be so dumb as to say that the NFL sent him letters and they’re saying they didn’t. Come on Chump show us the letters.

  7. stanislous says:

I bet that lands him a bunch more votes. LOL

  8. Waterman2 says:

He is right tho , the debates this round should be pretty wild , alway hate to miss violence on TV.

  9. klastri says:

Mr. Trump is now lying about the NFL because he knows that Mrs. Clinton will further humiliate him in a debate.

He knows absolutely nothing about foreign or domestic policy. Nothing.

  10. justmyview371 says:

So reschedule the debates to a satisfactory date.

  11. 808ikea says:

It is probably to Trump’s advantage to have he debates conflict with the NFL games because he will get torched by Clinton. Let’s face it Trump lacks any depth on foreign policy, constitutional law, and economic issues.

  12. Tita Girl says:

Trump would do well to start studying now. Mrs. Clinton, without a doubt will be very prepared. His only way around this will be his usual yelling, mic hogging and “unusual” (to put it mildly) statements.
The latest PPD poll puts Ms. Clinton at +5 against Trump. Throw in Johnson and Stein and she still polls at +5. Reuters also places her at +5. The Public Policy Institute of California puts her at +16.
Trump has to work more on why he deserves our vote rather than why we shouldn’t vote for Mrs. Clinton.

  13. BadBingo says:

Hillary will wipe the floor with Der Drumpf. in a debate with or without a nap. He’s trying to weasel out because he’s basically a sissy.

  14. RetiredUSMC says:

Bully, Coward and, Liar! Trifecta of the GOP (Uneducated White Resistance)! Trump the Loser!

  15. Ikefromeli says:

Again, Trump flat out lying. The NFL said there was NEVER a letter and any formal communication. The fact is, on a programming basis, the NFL event actually might add to the viewership, and it is something the Trump campaign wants to avoid.

Further, to say the Clinton campaign is trying to rig the debates is also a flat out lie; the debate schedule are published a year in advance and withOUT any consultation of any of the parties. Liar liar…

  16. serious says:

The DNC has already been caught favoring one candidate over another. Trump is right—now with the NFL games on who will be watching the games and who will be watching the debates???? I, like most red blooded, beer and chips guys, enjoy the NFL games—but I would like to see Trump tear into the skeletons that Hillary tries to hide–Romney never went for the throat–Trump will go for the gut!!! Third and one student body right!!!!!!!!

  17. Rickyboy says:

JUST VOTE. CONGRADULATIONS TO THE NEXT PRESIDENT.
