Pali Highway lanes reopen after vehicle crash

The left lanes in both directions on the Pali Highway near the hairpin turn were closed briefly this morning after a traffic accident left a vehicle teetering on the median.

Police reopened the lanes around 11:55 a.m.

No serious injuries were immediately reported.

Sadly…with the driving behavior exhibited on the road today. I am very pleased that no one got hurt. Teetering on the median? Please don’t let the details reveal someone was texting…it would not surprise me. 🙂

      My texting, playing Pokemon go.

Even if not texting, I see too many people weaving in and out of the flow of traffic and speeding. There is a reason why the speed limit in that section of the Pali is 35 MPH. If the roads are wet as they were this morning, anyone going even that fast must have some kind of a death wish. Slow down. Arrive alive and not at the ER.

The speed limits are set so that an very old senior citizen can drive safely. I used to drive during my working years 30,000 miles/year. What was frustrating is you have the super slow in the left lane. Also had a theory that old people would drive slowly up the Pali in the left lane as they were afraid in the right lane.

Agreed. Some believe just because you drive a lot…it makes you a good driver…not so. There are nuances to driving effectively and safely. Perhaps more drivers should also take MSF motorcycle or even bicycling safety class so they understand proper distancing (safe stop), maintaining proper speed (i.e. 35 mph) to insure you can hold your line / turn radius and not end up on the median. Let’s not blame old senior citizen. Sometimes the perception of speed (driving too slow) is sometimes more perceived than reality…especially if you left late for work and in a rush…just saying 🙂

Sandys, you have no training or experience in traffic engineering. Speed limits are determined by a set of physical factors that also involves federal regulations. Dumbing down for seniors is not one of them. Finally, the left lane is NOT a lane to exceed the speed limit. You can still get a speeding ticket in the left lane.
