Matisyahu performed at the Mayjah Rayjah on Saturday.

PAIA » An ukulele player at a Maui coffee shop sang the duet of a lifetime with reggae artist Matisyahu, all the while completely oblivious to his famous singing partner’s identity.

Matisyahu and his bassist Stu Brooks were getting coffee last week before heading to a Maui beach when they heard the man start strumming the singer’s hit “One Day.”

Brooks suggested Matisyahu sing along and started filming the impromptu duet. At the end, the ukulele player shakes Matisyahu’s hand and tells him he has a beautiful voice.

That’s when the clean-shaven Matisyahu, who sported a full beard at the height of his popularity, reveals his identity.

The stunned ukulele player was invited along to Matisyahu’s concert.

Kanaka maoli of Hawaii would likewise be stunned to learn that Matisyahu is a Zionist with no love for ke kanaka maoli of Palestine. And to think he plays reggae, yet! What irony — the music of Jamaican blacks whose forebears were slaves. The music that defines social responsibility.

As long as he ignores the rights of a sorely oppressed people he won’t see a single penny from yours truly.

All my life I´ve been waiting for
    I´ve been praying for
    For the people to say
That we don´t wanna fight no more
    They´ll be no more wars
    And our children will play
