A man was killed Saturday after losing control in a single-truck crash on Honoapiilani Highway in West Maui.

The man was driving an F-150 pickup southbound on the highway when he lost control, collided with a guardrail, traveled across the on-coming lane and slammed into a second guardrail, Maui police said.

The truck overturned and landed on the driver, who was the only person in the truck. He died at the scene, and his identity was not yet been released. Police said the man was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash happened about 9:30 p.m., fronting Olowalu Store.

It was the 11th traffic fatality this year in Maui compared to 15 at this time last year.
