Crime in Hawaii seems to be increasing. If not, then at least the violent crimes seems to be on the rise
agree
Perhaps media reporting of violent crime is increasing (after all, sensationalism sells newspaper and TV advertising space) but the statistics (there are a number of different sources but they more or less agree as far as magnitude) since 2010 and even back to the period of population growth of 2006-7 shows that violent crime and violent crime per 100,000 rates are not rising. In fact the rates are much the same. There is a little annual variation in the rates per 100,000 both up and down but probably not significantly so.
Often times our perceptions of almost any local issue are more subject to reporting on the issue and subjective in nature than is actually supported by data.
Was he playing Pokemon? It would be interesting to know if he was lured to the area to be robbed.
Advantage to criminals? Pokemon developers getting a cut? Just kidding!
