A Honolulu police solo bike officer was injured today during escort training when the motorcycle he was riding hit a concrete curb in Ewa Villages, a police spokeswoman said in an email.
The officer was trying to negotiate a turn when the accident occurred.
Emergency Medical Services personnel said the man, 40, was injured at 11:40 a.m. at Kapolei Parkway and Renton Road. He was treated and taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
Honolulu police are preparing for the arrival of President Barack Obama on Wednesday with motorcade training.
HawaiiNewsNow reporting it was an HPD bike officer injuring in “training”. Sounds like they were practicing Presidential motorcade detail before Obama arrives in Honolulu. One HPD officer has already died in a previous training for motorcade detail in Mililani where the riders skip from intersection to intersection to stop cross traffic while the presidential motorcade drives through. It is clear they are riding beyond the capability of their skills, motorcycle and prevailing road conditions. One HPD officer, Favella, has already died in an actual motorcade detail, I think at Hickam AFB when Bush or Clinton was president. Another HPD cop died when a cop was riding on Ft Weaver Rd in tight “parade’ formation and then when a car in the opposite direction lost control in front of them, they had no room to maneuver out of the way and one ending up getting killed.
Something not right.
The weather is too nice today with lovely light trades and great visibility. Maybe that’s the cause?
Sounds like a good argument to bar obama from Hawaii. Then there will be no reason for our officers to be put in danger stopping traffic.
like we always tell the kids, it’s fun until someone gets hurt. You see a lot of that from the solo bike officers.

Too many accidents. Why use bikes at all? Riding two abreast at high speed is probably the cause.
Godspeed to the officer. Glad SA staff writer Perez didn’t hear about the sacrifice this HPD officer made…this is too positive to write about.
Solo Bike detail is the single most dangerous duty assignment in the HPD. They are volunteers and the level of training is very high but the nature of the job has led to quite a few officers being seriously injured as well as the one fatality a few years ago on Hickam.
