All public schools in Maui County will shut down at noon tomorrow in preparation for Hurricane Lester, the Department of Education said this afternoon.

The department earlier today said that all Big Island schools would reopen tomorrow, after being closed Wednesday and Thursday ahead of Tropical Storm Madeline.

“We assessed our school campuses this morning and no damages were reported,” schools Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi said of the 41 Hawaii island public schools. “We will remain vigilant as Hurricane Lester makes its way towards the islands and continue to keep everyone informed of the affects it may have on our schools.”
