Big Island man charged in shooting death
Authorities charged a 29-year-old Kailua-Kona man with murder in the shooting death of 36-year-old Kailua-Kona man, whose body was found Oct. 18.
Gafatasi Napoleon was charged Sunday with second-degree murder, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, promoting a dangerous drug and criminal property damage.
His bail was set at $271,000.
Alanaokala Covington’s body was found Oct. 18 with a gunshot wound to the chest off Hawaii Belt Road.
Police responded to a criminal property damage report occurring just before noon Saturday in the Ooma subdivision of Kailua-Kona, and found and arrested Napoleon on suspicion of murder.
