A Mass for Kalaupapa was held Friday during a ceremony at Damien Memorial School in Kalihi, seven years after St. Damien was canonized. The special guest was Audrey Toguchi, 88, of Aiea, who was miraculously cured of terminal cancer after praying at Damien's grave site in Kalaupapa, Molokai. Other attendees were students, teachers and members of the Catholic diocese.

The crew at New City Nissan in Honolulu hams it up with the Heisman Trophy at the 2295 N. King St. showroom. Nissan is a long-running sponsor of the Heisman, which is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. This year’s ceremony will be held Dec. 12 in New York. Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota, a former University of Oregon and Saint Louis School star, won the Heisman in 2014.

A front-end loader dumped a load of sand Monday night at Ala Moana Beach Park near lifeguard stand 1-C across from McCoy Pavilion as the city's sand-pushing project began. The Department of Parks and Recreation is shifting sand from the beach's Diamond Head section to add volume to other portions of the beach.

The event included a Shinto worship service by the Rev. Nagahiko Senge of Shimane, Japan, who is superintendent of the Izumo Taisha Headquarters.

A pair of binoculars from the bridge of the battleship USS Arizona are on display as part of an exhibit, "Why We Still Remember," at The Museum of World War II in Natick, Mass. Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, the exhibition opened Saturday and runs through Jan. 7, featuring artifacts that have rarely been publicly displayed. The USS Arizona sank after it was bombed during the Japanese air raid that launched the U.S. into World War II.

Skip Tomiyama, 82, performed Saturday at the 40th annual "A Day at Queen Emma Summer Palace" in Nuuanu. "I only dance when I'm moved by the music," said Tomiyama, who was inspired by a mele played by the Rod- ney Arias Trio. The fundraising event, hosted by Kimo Kahoano, was held by the Daughters of Hawaii for the preservation of the palace and Hulihe'e Palace in Kailua-Kona.
