Man allegedly fires gun to scare children on Kauai
A 48-year-old Kapaa man, who allegedly fired a gun to scare a group of children, has been released on bail.
Police arrested Randy Yamagata Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly threatened five children, ages 11 to 14, from his property along Olohena Road, across from the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.
Police said they responded to a report from the boys at about 2:15 p.m. that Yamagata had fired a gun at a tree to scare the children.
Yamagata was arrested on suspicion of first-degree reckless endangering and first-degree terroristic threatening. He was released after posting $10,000 bail.

Why would a guy as big as him need to scare little children with gun fire. Shoot chickens instead.
Maybe he was shooting at chickens.
Cannot run that fast.
What were the kids doing on his property?
Yeah, maybe breaking in. Doesn’t he have a right to protect his property. He didn’t shoot at him. Maybe the cops should be talking to the kids parents about respecting someones property.
He didn’t have fireworks to celebrate Trump’s victory.
Yamagata was unwise to display and discharge a firearm unless his personal safety was in jeopardy. That said, it is, however, disturbing that implied in the article is that the kids didn’t flee from him immediately and thus provoked Yamagata to escalate matters by firing a shot. Why? Overexposure to violent video games and a resultant desensitization? The kids I grew up with would have turned and run at the first glimpse of a gun.
