A solar-powered emergency warning siren is seen in this 2010 photo.

Sirens at Kaena Point, Thompson Corner in Haleiwa, and the H-3 Lookout in Kailua are being tested today from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of a statewide siren modernization project by the city and state emergency management agencies.

Resident should be prepared to hear the sirens sound six to eight times for 30-second to one-minute intervals while technicians check to ensure the sirens were installed properly, officials said.
