Russian President Vladimir Putin gestures as he gives his annual state of the nation address in the Kremlin in Moscow, Russia.

MOSCOW >> President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Russia hopes to normalize ties with the U.S. and join efforts in the fight against international terrorism.

Speaking in a live state-of-the-nation address, Putin said that Russia is ready to take part in tackling global challenges if its interests are respected.

“We don’t want confrontation with anyone,” he said in a speech before officials and lawmakers in an ornate, white-marble Kremlin hall.

“Unlike our foreign colleagues who are seeing Russia as an enemy, we have never been looking for enemies, we need friends,” Putin said. “But we won’t allow any infringement on our interests and neglect of them.”

Russia’s relations with the West have plummeted to a post-Cold War low over the Ukrainian crisis and the war in Syria. During the U.S. election campaign, President Barack Obama’s administration accused Russia of hacking American political sites and email accounts in an effort to interfere with the vote. The Kremlin has rejected the accusations.

“In the last few years. we have faced attempts of foreign pressure with all tools involved — from the myths about Russian aggression, (allegations) of meddling in elections to the hounding of our athletes,” Putin said, referring to doping scandals.

Putin said that Russia is looking forward to mending ties with the U.S. after President-elect Donald Trump takes office.

“We are ready for cooperation with the new American administration,” he said. “It’s important to normalize and develop our bilateral ties on an equal and mutually beneficial basis. We share responsibility for ensuring global security and stability and strengthening the non-proliferation regime.”

Putin added that Moscow hopes to pool efforts with Washington in confronting international terrorism.

“Our servicemen in Syria are fulfilling that task,” he said.

Russia has conducted an air campaign in support of Syrian President Bashar Assad, helping his forces make significant gains, most recently in Aleppo, Syria’s largest city before the war.

In the speech that was mostly focused on economic and social issues, Putin said that the Russian economy is on the way to recovery, pointing at a growth in some sectors of industry and agriculture. He said agricultural exports this year will top $16 billion, exceeding weapons exports.

The Russian economy contracted 3.7 percent in 2015 and the recession has continued this year under the combined blow of low oil prices and Western sanctions.

Putin said the government should encourage growth by offering support to farmers and create incentives for small businesses.

He noted that inflation, which stood at nearly 13 percent last year, is expected to slow down to 6 percent this year.

With Trump leading the White House chapter of the Putin fan club (charter members include Trump advisors and paid Putin apologists like General Flynn, Paul Manafort, and Carter Page), I think Putin will be very happy. Russia seizing Ukraine? No problem. Russia supporting Assad in Syria? No problem? Putin objects to NATO? No problem, Trump will dismantle NATO. Given the strong possibility that Putin-controlled Russian banks are keeping the Trump businesses afloat after American banks blacklisted him, Trump’s biggest conflict of interest may be the Russian connection. Trump could prove that he owes nothing to Putin and his cronies by releasing his tax returns, but that will never happen. We can only hope that some patriot will leak them to the press. Former acting CIA Director Michael Morell said, “In the intelligence business, we would say that Mr. Putin had recruited Mr. Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation.”

Great restart of cooperation between our two countries.

I hope they can get our military to cooperate with the Russian military in Syria.

I hope we can persuade the Ukrainians to make peace with the Russians.

If Trump can do this, then we will be ready to end the violence in the Middle East.

    • bsdetection says:

That’s quite a wish list! Trump could be the 21st century’s Neville Chamberlain! The U.S. could cooperate with Russia by supporting Syria’s genocidal dictator and bombing some hospitals in Aleppo, if Putin hasn’t bombed them all already. We could try out chemical weapons on civilians, and then, as they flee the chemical weapons, we could drop barrel bombs on them. Trump will enjoy bombing the families of his enemies. And sexual predator Trump will have the perfect advice for Ukrainians as Putin invades their country — relax and enjoy it. Maybe the U.S. and Russia could have joint military exercises where they shoot down Malaysian airliners for target practice.

      • wiliki says:

Commercial airliners should have stayed out of Ukrainian airspace when there’s a war going on down below. They have only themselves to blame.

But we need to recognize that many former Soviet Union countries have huge populations of their own citizens that are ethnically Russian.

These countries shouldn’t be persecuting these minorities or treating them as second-class Citizens. That’s inviting Russian intervention.

Russians can claim in these circumstances that they need to stand up to American power. The reason these former countries are so aggressive against their own minorities is that they believe they’re being backed up by the US and NATO.

Hopefully Trump will set them right.

Do you think Trump should “get our military to cooperate with the Russian military” in Hungary?

Washington Post reports that in Hungary there was “a gunfight in late October between police and the leader of the National Front movement, an extremist group that identifies with Hungarian fascists of the 1930s. Police subsequently raided a number of properties connected to the group and discovered large stockpiles of weapons, according to a report in the Financial Times. Hungary’s national security committee reported that Russian diplomats and men dressed in Russian military intelligence uniforms had openly engaged in paramilitary training exercises with members of the group.”

      • wiliki says:

They’re headed towards a civil war.

Hungarians of Russian descent are being backed up by the Russians.

We shouldn’t make the mistake of trying to create more conflict by having NATO and the US involved in the war in Hungary.

        It’s not our kuleana.

During the elections and prior, the Democrats have been blaming the Russians for Everything! From Syria to, Iran, to Iraq, to Hacking the DNC,to Hacking our Election machines.Everything! I mean it’s Crazy!

At times these two look liked they were ready to start “Swinging” at each other at any moment! ….On a jest, in the Octagon,I would take Putin as the clear winner….hands down!Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Hillary Clinton would have been the same or worst…I mean talk about ,”Talking Trash” about Russia and Vladimir Putin. She had hurt herself(Big Time) of having any type of normal relations withe Russian people,by saying those things Sad & SMH.

These people? {Politicians} are supposed to be “Expert Diplomats” when it comes to foreign affairs? I now question that ability, when it comes down to “Career Politicians”. This ability w/them? Is Moot!

Ultimately? The American People,”The Silent Majority” made the Right Choice and voted for an “Outsider” President Elect Trump, who,in fact is not responsible for the Worlds Problems we face today! IMUA

    • bsdetection says:

It was the FBI and US intelligence services (the ones Trump doesn’t have time to meet with) that accused Russia of hacking.

      • MoiLee says:

BS detected. The FBI and US Intelligence were reluctant to report this (Russian Hacking) as a facts. Why? They were unsure.Only pointing fingers! With no credible evidence.
But it was those 17 US professional IT ( Hackers ) that were feeding Hillary this stuff . They had No proof,it was pure……… assumptions. Hillary used those assumptions to attack the Russians. remember now?

        • bsdetection says:

WSJ: ” U.S. intelligence agencies said they are confident senior Russian officials had directed such activities, and that the stolen data was then leaked publicly through Wikileaks, an online persona called Guccifer 2.0, and a website called DCLeaks.com.”

        • bsdetection says:

The director of the National Security Agency (NSA), Admiral Michael Rogers, was queried about the release of hacked information during the American general election and Donald Trump’s campaign.

          Admiral Rogers said;

“This was a conscious effort by a nation-state [Russia] to attempt to achieve a specific effect. This was not something that was done casually. This was not something that was done by chance. This was not a target that was selected purely arbitrarily.”

  5. latenightroach says:

Putin is relieved to know that we will finally have a POTUS who won’t support overthrowing governments. So am I.

O & HRC got this country into a huge mess, their foreign policy in the Middle East is insane. Won’t be easy to get out of, but we will. Cooperation with Russia is a good thing.

    • Boots says:

lol, this country was in a huge mess prior to Obama. It is a real shame so many have forgotten the mess that GW Bush gave us. Whether the Donald won’t make it a worse mess remains to be seen. Doesn’t seem promising though considering he is just filling the swamp with largely the same or similar alligators.

  6. NanakuliBoss says:
