Three Nanakuli Elementary students treated for eye irritations

Three Nanakuli Elementary School students were taken to hospitals for treatment of minor eye irritations this morning after a chemical odor was reported in one of theschool’s classrooms.

The students, two 10-year-old boys and an 11-year-old girl, were all in stable contiditon after the city’s Emergency Medical Services responded to a call at the school atabout 11:15 a.m. today.

A Department of Education spokeswoman said the classroom building was evacuated as a safety precaution. The fire department’s hazardous materials team responded,tested the air quality inside classrooms and around the building, and found no evidence of health hazards or any environmental causes.

No other buildings were affected and a letter was sent home with students to notify parents.
